Hello, and welcome to the website which will serve to fulfil all needs for those who enjoy the music that I do. That includes everything, but mainly focusing on my new-ish solo thing.
My first video is OUT NOW… you can see it here:
(Facebook link)
This is the first track from my solo album, which I’ve spent the past year and a bit making. I wanted to get it right, so I have spent a lot of time making the exact record that I wanted to make. And I’m incredibly proud of it. It’s my favourite of everything I’ve ever done. I would say that, but it’s true.
The premise of this record was that I wanted to take EVERYTHING that I’ve ever learned about songwriting, production and performance, and throw it all together in a big melting pot with a little bit of magic dust.
It takes in a bunch of my influences, likes and loves, adding undiluted Vimto and dilated pupils. What you get is a laid-back Summery sugar rush which makes me hark back to the glory days of Euro ’96. Snatching defeat from the jaws of victory since 1980.
The perfect time to launch this seemed to be winter 2016.
It’s called ‘Life Is Often Brilliant‘.
It would be great if you could share this around on your own Facebooks. As ever, you guys are my PR company and my promo team. The Vimeo link is here for Twitter and other social whatevers.
The video was made by the amazing Paul Morricone and Tom Hunter at Thunder And Lightning. Thanks guys.
There’ll be another video along in a month or so, and unless there’s some weird influx of industry interest (which would mean I could get it out to a wider audience), I’ll inevitably launch a Pledge campaign, which I’ll surely be bothering you all with, in order to pay for finishing it, pressing it and getting it out to you all.
(I want to do a Pledge-exclusive accompanying covers album, doing my versions of some of my favourite and most influential tracks, but that depends on time.)
I’ve also booked my first solo band gig, supporting Thingy Machines from Leeds, at the Brudenell on Saturday 11th February, which also happens to be my birthday. I’ve never had a birthday party before, so I thought I’d throw myself in at the deep end and invite you all along.
In the meantime, I’m hoping to keep this website blog thing updated with my latest travels and travails in the collective worlds of Eureka Machines, The Sisters Of Mercy, Ugly Kid Joe, the Ginger band, and all the other weird stuff I find myself involved in from time to time.
It would be great to have you all along on this wondrous journey. Everything’s a bloody journey these days and I don’t see why I shouldn’t get to have one. Especially since half my life is now a journey of some sort.
(For anyone wondering, this doesn’t get in the way of the other things I do – I just had a different set of things I wanted to say, so needed a new outlet. I’ll still be doing Eureka Machines, and the Sisters, and all the other stuff I get up to.)
Hope that you want to get onboard, and see you along that road,
Chris X
